Olocal Registration

Thanks for your interest in joining the Olocal community! Please take the time to read the following before registering, so that you know what you’re agreeing to.

What is Olocal

Olocal is short for Online Local, a website and apps where you can post and find local events, places, blogs, conversations, groups, classifieds, job listings, and product and service providers.

Olocal’s purpose is to use the Web to enhance our connection to the people, places, events, creations and resources in our local community. We won’t ever sell or trade your information, and we won’t use it in any way for Olocal’s promotional purposes without your express permission.

Olocal is a service to the community provided by Itabix Inc, a web development and hosting company located in Hadley, MA. It is financially supported by Itabix, other supporters, and through fees collected for services provided by Olocal for its members. While we need to pay the bills, it is our intention that most users won’t need to pay for using Olocal.

It is our commitment to provide an online space for your community’s interaction that feeds into and supports your local community. To that end, we would like to support and encourage the development of local governance to oversee and provide direction for your Olocal online community that will work with Itabix around Olocal development and management for the betterment of your community.

We can provide the virtual space, but Olocal is dependent on its members to create an online place that’s actually valuable to you. Visit Olocal regularly, use the text and video chat to interact with family, friends, associates, etc., post your creations and your thoughts, help those who need help, invite your friends, use it for your group’s communication and collaboration, however it can be useful to you.

And give us feedback on how it can be improved or any issues you encounter. There are little red flags sprinkled throughout the site to send us a direct message.

Who can become a member?

Membership is currently open to any individual 13 and over who is residing in (not just visiting) the United States. You must be a resident of the address you use in your member signup. We take steps to verify the validity of the location you register.

That being said, to begin with Olocal is specifically targeting the three counties of Western Massachusetts – Franklin, Hampshire and Hampden. If you live outside of this area, you’re welcome to join and use the facilities but until your local community starts using Olocal, there won’t be much content.

Olocal welcomes businesses, organizations, clubs, interest groups, etc. but all memberships are required to be personal memberships, solely for an individual. Once you are registered, you are welcome to create a group and/or a circle for your group or organization, and if you are a business or organization offering products and services you can create a providers listing.

If you have any questions about whether membership is appropriate for you, please feel free to contact us.

Your Agreement

It is our wholehearted intent to create a safe, open and fun environment for everyone. Let’s agree to make our part of the world a better place. To do this, we need to agree on some rules of conduct.

Be Respectful

By agreeing to become a member, you are agreeing to treat others with respect and “keep it civil”. Olocal is not a place to act out, to be abusive, or to get your anger out. Abuse of any kind, including “flaming” or raging, insulting, discrimination, sharing privileged information, objectifying, stalking, engaging in unwanted contact, or any behavior intended to upset, anger, insult, threaten, intimidate, or to treat another person as inferior is not tolerated.

Anyone who breaks this agreement will be warned and/or removed from membership at our discretion.

At the same time, a community works best if we exercise tolerance and patience. Too often nowadays, people cry foul concerning someone else’s words and actions based on their own view of what’s acceptable behavior or because they have an overly aggressive view of what’s appropriate.

You can help make Olocal and your community a better, happier place to live by taking a breath or three and letting it go if someone says or does something that causes you to react, but that in fact may not have been intended to be hurtful or was said in a moment of passion.

If you’d like to talk about whether someone’s actions are “over the top”, feel free to contact Olocal management on chat.

If you feel that you or anyone else is the subject of abuse, you are strongly encouraged to contact the Olocal management on chat.

Olocal does not allow solicitation. By solicitation, we mean approaching someone with the intent of selling them something, signing them up for something, or getting them to commit to something especially if they are based on your own needs, values, or financial incentives. Olocal is not the place to solicit people for your business, organization, group, religion, political agenda, cult, movement, etc.

If you feel you are being solicited, please contact the Olocal management on chat.

Your Agreement

By signing up for membership, you agree to follow our rules of conducts, described above, and you understand that your membership may be revoked at any time at our discretion.

You are also agreeing to our Terms of Use which you can view here.

Thank you for joining, and welcome!
